Question:
If you have student loans that are deferred for years does this count against you when applying for a mortgage. Will it lessen the amount you can qualify for? Is it considered debt when applying for a mortgage?

Answer:
Any debt deferred or not has to be considered since it all has to be repaid as some point. The lender will ask you for documentation of when it is deferred till, what the payments will be etc. This won’t necessarily hurt your qualifying or lessen the amount, it just all has to be considered.
